• About Melissa Bratter

Welcome and thank you for taking a moment to learn more about me and my background. Specializing in attachment, childhood trauma and exposure to adverse childhood experiences I have spent the bulk of my career working with youth and adults who struggle with thoughts, feelings and behaviors related to: suicidal and homicidal ideation, self-injury, elopement and both verbal and physical aggression. These individuals often struggled with their ability to self-regulate and manage their impulses when in an escalated space. Engaging in self-destructive patterns of behavior as a means of coping when overwhelmed. Often resulting in a diminished sense of self-worth leading to a cycle of shame, self-loathing and self-sabotage. I provided solution focused treatment, empowering individuals with tools and skills which promote self-compassion and self-regulation. I have also worked with parents of teens in residential treatment. I assisted them in better understanding their child’s struggles and needs as well as provided tools and strategies to assist them in supporting themselves throughout their child’s journey.

When working with clients I view myself as a guide and educator, a collaborative partner on your journey of self discovery. Clients have found my high energy, positive attitude and non-judgmental approach to be safe and motivating when doing this work. I empower my clients by teaching skills and strategies for coping, self-regulating and shifting focus to the positives even in the most challenging of situations. Providing strategies to stop your inner critic from shaming and judging you so you are able to respond to yourself with grace and compassion. Individuals find me to be a safe, judgment free space full of compassion and kindness. Clients describe me as “real” and “down to earth.” A person easy to connect with that they felt safe to open up to. A person with whom they could really let go, be honest and work through the hard things to make their life what they wanted it to be.

I know this journey can be hard and scary! I have been there; I know how brave you have to be to do this work and how defeated you can feel throughout the process despite the progress you know you’re making. I can help you break down old patterns and move forward with your life! I recognize that we are all doing the best we can with the tools we have.
